The Boys Have Made it to the top!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday 3 November 2010 14:27 By Scott Bushell & Darren Nolan

This morning on November the 3rd at 4:30 am UK time, we got a phone call from Scott and Darren from the summit of Imja Tse (Island Peak). The boys have done it!!!! Congratulations to you two. Its an amazing achievement and words cannot describe how proud we are of you. Its an astonishing effort which has paid off no end. It must be like being in their own epiphany right now. The views are apparently out of this world as they put it and after taking it all in and taking lots of group shots it was time to descend again back to base camp of Island Peak. They will be slowly now be heading down back towards Namche Bazaar.

WELL DONE BOYS!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH!!! WE KNEW YOU WOULD SUCCEED XXXXX

The boys have made it to Everest Base Camp!!!!!!

Sunday 31 October 2010 03:16 By Scott Bushell & Darren Nolan

Today on October the 30th, Scott and Darren left Lebouche at 4930m and headed to Gorak Shep at 5140m. The aim was to get to Everest base Camp by this afternoon or by tomorrow but despite it being bitterly cold, not being able to eat very much and suffering a little from the altitude, they kept their spirits going and with their determination and stubbornness they managed to get to base camp a day earlier!!!

The altitude at base camp is 5436 metres. In their words, it is barren, desolate and they are feeling the altitude now.

Tomorrow, on Sunday the 31st of October they will be heading to Kala Pathar which is 5545 metres. Then from here, it is 3 days walk to the their ultimate goal - ISLAND PEAK or Imja Tse at 6189 metres in height. The boys will have to put their climbing skills to the test and strap on their crampons, and ice axes, helmets, ropes and harnesses and commence the 14 hour technical ascent to the top!!!!! This is by no means an easy task but a daunting one but we are all rooting for them and are sure they will give it their all and conquer the big one.

They are ecstatic of what they have achieved so far and had a group photo with their team and am sure are just trying to take everything in and of course rest as much as possible before their next trekking phase.

Well done boys and hang in there!!!!!!

Namche Bazaar, Tengbouche, Pferiche

Thursday 28 October 2010 01:34 By Scott Bushell & Darren Nolan

The boys acclimatised at Namche Bazaar for two days enjoying the markets and visiting the local monasteries and just resting as much possible here.

Beyond Namche, the serious altitude begins as they have slowly progressed towards Everest Base Camp. The mountain scenery along the way is just awe inspiring with
many of the worlds highest peaks in full view such as Everest itself and Lhotse.

They then treked to the village of Khumjung which is situated near Mount Khumbila (3970 metres) from sea level. The village is north of Namche Bazaar and is another check point where the boys have passed and acclimatised towards their next trek. The village still has modern communications such as landlines and internet so we can still communicate daily with them even though it might not be as easy to get a line clear now.

They are now past this point and went from Tengbouche towards Pferishe-their next acclimatisation stop. The altitude here is 4270 metres. It sits quietly under the majestic Ama Dablam. The temperature where they are now is -10C at night and they seem to be not suffering from any altitude sickness.

Pferishe is another important stop as the Nepalese Rescue Association is located here. It is a
medical station manned (during the trekking season) by volunteer qualified Doctors. Through
experience, if you are going to suffer from altitude sickness, symptoms will begin to surface here.
Scott and Darren's guide will encourage them to do a small acclimatisation walk to get their bodies used to the higher level of altitude here.

From here it is just a 2 - 3 day trek before they reach Everest Base Camp by which time they will have met the enormous Khumbu glacier as they trek up the front of it.

I will update you guys soon.

Many thanks.

Michelle

Lukla to Namche Bazaar

Monday 25 October 2010 15:14 By Scott Bushell & Darren Nolan

Scott and Darren arrived in Lukla late Friday the 22nd of october where they commenced their trek towards Everest Base Camp. They trekked from Lukla to Monjo on the 23rd of October and had Yak steak for dinner!!!

They then proceeded to trek to Namche Bazaar which was a much hardous trek. The altitude here is 3416 metres (11,286 ft) with breathtaking views from their moutain lodge.

Namche Bazaar for your information is a village in the Solukhumbu District in the Sagarmatha zone of north-eastern Nepal. it is located within the Khumbu area populating the sides of a hill. Namche is the main trading area of the Khumbu region with many Nepalese officials including a policeman, a post office and even a bank!! So, they are not as yet in the wilderness. Once they arrived they rested then spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the village's markets and visiting the monasteries. The boys both appear to be feeling well.

Today the boys were heading to a small climatisation climb to get used to the altitude in the region and afterwards they will rest this afternoon. The food is so-so but they appear to be feeling well and have not been affected as yet by the altitude here.
Will update you soon as I get information from Scott of where they are. Follow the links so you can track their progress and also in facebook where they are uploading pictures of their journey as they go along.

Bella Italia Leaving Party

13:15 By Scott Bushell & Darren Nolan

Thank you for all of you that attended the charity leaving dinner on Monday the 18th of October at Bella italia, Sixfields, Nortampton. We had a great time and lots of fun with a quiz, lots of raffle prizes and even had an auction for a Churches donation worth £160!!! And not forgetting the amazing entertainment from my friend Carol "Caz" who put on a great performance and wowed everyone with her voice. At the end of the night we managed to raise £398.37 and considering it was a Monday night, I think this figure exceeded everyone's expectations.

We are well on our way to meet our £3000 target and no doubt will surpass this by the time the boys get back on the 10th November.

The boys (Darren and Scott) left on Wednesday the 20th of October for Delhi, then got a connecting flight to Kathmandu where they stayed for two nights then headed out to Lukla on Friday the 22nd where their trek began. The views are amazing and the boys sampled some local Nepalese delights including Yak steak for dinner and not forgetting the authentic Everest beer which is very good apparently.

Will keep you updated on the boys progress.

Many thanks

Michelle
